Morgan and the Prom Dress

Morgan was invited to an LDS Prom in Tucson. She asked if I would make her a dress. She chose a pattern and then decided that she didn't like the neckline. In March, while in Phoenix visiting Grandma we went fabric and pattern shopping. (Those of you reading this probably don't know that the only place in Sierra Vista to purchase dress fabric is Wal-Mart.) Morgan chose another pattern with a neckline she liked. We also purchased fabric to make a test dress. I made a dress from the new pattern to assure that she really liked this style and to verify her size. We haven't made her a dress before. This dress challenged my sewing skills. It has an invisible side seam zipper. It took me seven tries before the zipper was in to my satisfaction :( She loved the neck, but wanted a long dress. She also needed a smaller size. She will have to grow into the orange dress.
The next Saturday immediately following the afternoon session of General Conference, Randy, Morgan and I headed to Tucson in search of fabric. Bethany met us at Jo-Ann's Fabric. Morgan chose a bold blue butterfly print! I combined the two patterns. Started sewing. This time I got the zipper in on the first try. She loves the dress! Morgan did her own hair.
Dressed and ready for a wonderful night with her best friend.
